Current Uses

The biggest industry that uses X-ray technology is medicine. Commonly used in the form of X-ray machines, these take pictures of a patient’s body to identify potential bone fractures and other bodily abnormalities. They are also used in airports to check customer’s baggage. One of the lesser known applications of X-ray is the area of art history. Historians use X-rays to see if a picture has been painted on top of another. Vets also rely on X-rays to help treat animals.

How X-rays work

When a machine is taking X-ray images, a piece of photographic film is placed in front of an object. The X-ray is then turned on briefly, and the image is transferred to the film.

This can make searching faster, and improve the access to vital X-rays without putting any lives in danger. It can also significantly reduce the amount of time spent finding a physical version of an X-ray in patient files.

Space is vital for all sectors and industries. Physical X-rays can take up a huge amount of space. Once transferred to a digital format, space can be freed up and used for other purposes. For example, hospitals can use the extra space for extra beds or machinery. Once transferred to a digital archive, digital X-rays can be disposed of or put into deep storage.

This saved space also means that companies could save money. The space that would be taken up by storage can be used more productively, especially if storage is outsourced. Money that is spent can then be plumped back into areas that would benefit from more spending.

Off Site Diagnosis
Some cases need the opinion of an expert who may not be onsite at a particular time. Transferring to digital operations means that X-rays that are scanned can be emailed or viewed remotely for a faster diagnosis.
